Bringing carers and the carers service together as expert partners to ensure carers needs, wishes and feelings are at the heart of everything we do

Walking Group

Our carers walking group reformed in March and from then on we have had the privilege of using a mini bus to transport all to the following destinations.

  1. Brockholes Nature Reserve
  2. Houghton Bottoms
  3. St Annes on Sea
  4. Entwistle Reservoir
  5. Mill Hill Canal Circular Meander with various other walks planned for the rest of the summer.

On average we are seven to nine people walking with five volunteers (at present time we are hoping to organize the volunteers to join us on a rota basis so numbers of walkers fluctuate so much from week to week.

The comments that we are receiving from our walkers is very positive. 54% of carers have suffered depression; one lady told me how much of a ‘great time’ she has had because of an hour or so break away from her husband who is poorly.

We intend to host 12 different walking activities (1 per week, 9 day time and 3 evening during the 12 week period)

Note: the minibus is a 15 seater.
