There are almost 6 million Carers in the UK with an estimated 13 million people expected to become Carers in the
next decade.
They range from 9 - 90 years of age. A poll commissioned by the Princess Royal Trust indicated that the average age of a Carer is 12.
Many young Carers are in some way restricted because of their caring duties and many miss days off school to care for someone.
About 1.2 million Carers spend over 50 hours per week on their caring responsibilities.
Only 25% of carers have had a 'Carers Assessment' and over 50% were unaware they have an
entitlement to an assessment of their own needs.
More than 80% of Carers say that their caring role has had a detrimental
effect on their own health.
The number of unpaid Carers is likely to rise to over 13 million
within the next 10 years.
